Why I Wrote Delphy - and What’s Happening Now 🌸

The most meaningful project I’ve worked on so far is my latest short script, Delphy.
It tells the story of an eccentric teenager who, while grieving her mother’s death, endures bullying at her new school. When she forms an unexpected bond with the popular girl, she embarks on a challenging bike journey that changes her in ways she never expected.

Delphy grew directly out of my own story.
I wrote my first script when I was thirteen with a friend at school. We scouted locations, rehearsed scenes, and even started filming with my friend’s dad’s camera. But that dream was cut short when I had to move to another country. And I was the outsider — again. I was isolated, homesick, and bullied for being different. I grieved my old life deeply, grieved that dream that never came to life.
Writing Delphy has been a healing process for that younger version of me — the one who just wanted to tell stories and be understood.
This film is about the strength of being different, and the quiet power of staying true to yourself — even when the world pushes back. It’s also about growth, resilience, and finding moments of beauty and connection in unexpected places.
I didn’t know if there was space in the film world for a story like this. But it turns out, there is. Delphy recently won Best Short Screenplay at Female Voices Rock Film Festival and Best Short Script at Independent Shorts Awards. I’m now in pre-production and looking for that perfect team to bring Delphy to life.
This is only the beginning — and I’m so excited to share more of the journey with you.
If you've ever felt like an outsider, need a bit of uplift and hope in your life, or if you're drawn to coming-of-age stories full of heart, humor, and healing, I hope Delphy will speak to you.
Thank you for being here. 🌸
To making dreams a reality! It's never, ever too late!
The most beautiful and unique flowers are the ones that bloom against all odds. - Delphy

I KNEW when I met you in Utah that this was a film that would be made. Congratulations, Lea. I can’t wait to see the film!
